5 Cool Shipping Container Projects

02.06.2018 - Posted by Updated On 02.06.2018

Shipping containers are used for all types of buildings and projects around the United States and other parts of the world. Some of the projects are very practical and have a great every day application, while others are designed purely for a “wow factor” and to gain as much publicity as possible. We've picked out five of our favorite projects, some that we've witnessed ourselves, others that were sent to us by other container people.

Colorado Swimming Pool

This is an obvious choice. Functional, well designed, and a great feature to attract new tenants to the office complex. Just north of Denver, Colorado a creative mixed use property welded two 40' containers together to make a great looking pool. Read more about the shipping container pool.

Wyoming Bunk House

The University of Pittsburgh needed an alternative to renting campers every year for their annual archeological class that takes place on a ranch in Wyoming, so they contacted us directly to help them come up with a solution. Again, two 40' shipping containers were involved and they were welded together at a 90 degree angle to help block the wind when the students were relaxing. Wakeboarding Course

Pure, simple, wow factor. Watch the video to see why this wakeboard course made from shipping containers is cool.

Florida Container Home

Completely practical, highly functional, and a pleasant place to live or retreat, this shipping container home was built by American Trailer Rentals in Lakewood, Florida. The guys at ATR put together a really well thought out container home, complete with a working fireplace and BBQ grill for cooking out.

Shanghai Levi's Pop-up Shop

In terms of gaining attention, we happened upon this pop up shop next to the Jing'An Temple in Shanghai, China. Upon seeing it, we had to investigate. Five 20' shipping containers, including one angled to be the stairs to the second level. Levi's jeans are the original, and so was this idea!

These are just a few of the cool things that we've come across over the years, and by no means do we mean to overlook the container sculptures, retail locations and even convention booths that we've seen built out of shipping containers. If you're in the market for a creative shipping container idea we encourage you to contact any of the seller's active on our marketplace. If they can't help you, they probably know someone that can.
