Double Door Shipping Containers for Car, ATV, and Snowmobile Storage

Double door shipping containers are a semi-common “specialized” type of shipping container, and they’re growing in popularity for both storing normal things that people put in shipping or storage containers, and storage many types of vehicles including cars, ATVs, and snowmobiles. The most popular reasons cited for buying a double door shipping container are the ease of use, available space, and clean conditions. There are a couple of potential issues to consider, but if you can get past those it could make life much easier.

Pull Through Ease

The biggest benefit to storing cars, ATV’s or snowmobiles inside of a double door shipping container is that reverse is never needed to pull out; just open the second set of doors and drive right on through to the other side. Alternatively, if the vehicle that you need is in the front of the container, you don’t have to move everything out to access it as you would in a traditional single door container

Ample Storage Space

Double door containers are typically 40’ long and either 8’6” or 9’6” tall. This length means that a couple of cars, and multiple ATVs or snowmobiles could be stored inside. There could also be space to hang shelving from the D rings that run along the top rails on both sides of the container to utilize the maximum amount of space.

New/One Trip Containers

Double door containers aren’t typically used by shipping lines, as the cost of the second set of doors is prohibitive and can’t be fully utilized in most shipping situations. This means that almost all double door containers are one trip shipping containers. The benefit of buying a one trip container means that the doors will swing open easily, the handles and locking gear will work with minimal effort, and it will be factory equipped with a lock box.

Potential Problems

Extra space is definitely needed for double door containers. If the container is placed with one end against a wall or curb it renders the second set of doors useless. Before you rush out and purchase a double door, make sure that you have ample space to navigate both ends of the container.
